Dry skin is a common problem among men. In-particular feet and hands tend to be the worst areas effected.

When it comes to hand creams it is a good idea to spend that little bit more than you might on other products. The better quality creams will last longer as you need to apply less.

My favourite is by L'Occitane who offer a number of different products for skin, shaving and hair care. The Shea Butter Hand Cream moisturises the skin well and soaks in fast.

When applying cream to your hands or feet pay attention to the knuckles and in-between the fingers and toes. I would recommend using a small amount daily to see the biggest difference.

Say 'I Love You' with Dior

Valentines Day is around the corner and it's the time of year where soppy cards and boxes of chocolates appear everywhere. The trick is not to fall into the trap of cliché gifts and presents that say you bought them at the corner shop. Over the top tacky surprises (like a teddy bear) will not put you in the good books of your other half so why not try a bottle of perfume. Take note of her favourite fragrance and get her a fresh bottle (not the smallest size), if you want to find her something new there are three that have the sweet and sexy smell perfect for the big V day.

Miss Dior Cherie by Christian Dior - If your girlfriend or wife has a bit of a sweet tooth when it comes to perfumes then look no further than this fragrance. Extremely feminine and youthful the little sister of Miss Dior has a silver bow on the bottle making it a perfect gift. It has a very fruity scent with strawberries as the main focus so why not pair it up with some chocolate covered strawberries.

Heat by Beyonce - This is very popular at the moment and seems to be flying off the shelves. Celebrity fragrances seem to have a negative connotations at the moment because they have become a bit cliché but this one could become a favourite. Similar to Miss Dior Cherie, Heat is fruity but has more of a musk and has a strong initial burst which calms down after a few minutes. Though it does not jump out as a wow fragrance it is nice and quite sexy which I think you will enjoy once she has put it on.

Pleasures Delight by Estee Lauder - With again a strong influence of strawberries this perfume is sweet and has a huge floral influence. With earthy base it stands apart from the other two fragrances but is just as playful. It is not an obvious choice but could turn out to be a pleasant surprise.

My advice when buying a perfume is to try and take someone else who knows the person you are buying for. That way they can help choose which she will most like.

Fur Free Shaving

A new year means new resolutions and if your resolution is to only use products which do not test on animals then this is the post for you.

When trying to get that perfect shave a shaving brush can make a world of difference. The down side is that the good quality shaving brushes are made with animal hair, such as badger or bore. The brush I use is from the Body Shop which does not use animals in their products or for testing cosmetics. The Body Shop now has a full range of grooming products for men which use the ingredient maca root. It comes from peru and is believed to give skin an energy boost and help balance out hormones. Packed full of minerals and vitamins this could be a great introduction to your grooming regime. My three favourite products of the Body Shop range are;

Maca Root Face Scrub - This scrub is quite gentle but gets the job done. Its purpose is to get rid of all the dead skin which clogs up pores. It leaves skin feeling smooth and is good to use just before a shave. REMEMBER: Exfoliating will prevent oily skin and help maintain spots and ingrown hairs.

Maca Root Balancing Face Protector - If used daily this can be a life saver for those with oily skin. This moisturiser gives a matt finish and absorbs into the skin well.

Maca Root Eye Serum - You may have seen in other posts that I am a sucker for a good eye serum as bags under the eyes is one of my problem areas. This serum should be used daily to reap the benefits and the Vitamin E will act as an antioxidant to help the sensitive skin under the eye to fight off those every day elements like pollution and the sun.

If you are conscious about what your products are tested on then go to the BUAV website which is a cause devoted to stop animal testing.
An unkept hairstyle has hit the D&G runway for the 2011 winter men's collection. The avant-garde hair stylist talked to Swide about creating the look for the runway.

Summer is a time for sunglasses and, like choosing the right hair style, they should be chosen carefully. Similar to having the right hair cut, your face shape will effect the style of glasses that will suit you.

Choosing them can be simple, you will want to try and look for a pair that will balance out the angles of your face. If your face is oval you will want to look for a pair of sunnies which create strong horizontal lines across the face making it look broader so look for thick frames; however guys with oval faces are most likely to pull off any shape sunglasses, again they are the lucky ones.

Square faces suit rounder frames, the curves will soften the angles of the face making it more balanced. 50's style aviators will look great!

If your face is round you will want to find a pair that will create angles. Frames with less of a curve will give your face more of an edge making it less round.

In short find a frame that is the opposite to your face shape, oh and also only wear them when it's sunny!
I think everyone should know that Mad Men is the most stylish show on television. Everything about it makes me want to begin a career in advertising.

Though I wouldn't recommend the amount of cigarettes they smoke I would recommend trying to achieve their look. I'm starting to sound like a broken record but that smart business look really looks polished; the shows lead Don Draper even has clean shirts in his draws if the one he is wearing happens to get spoiled.

If you are a fan of the show you can make yourself into a Mad Men cartoon through their website. That picture is supposed to look like me!

After obssessing about Brycreem the last few posts I've been thinking about that classic combed back look which has been made infamous by film and music stars of the 50's. Elvis, James Dean and Marlon Brando (just to name a few) have made the swept back look timeless, and it is as cool today as it was back then. Zac Efron posed for the cover of the May 2009 issue of the US GQ with his hair flicked back and wore 50's style clothes. Vogue Italia recently featured photography by Steven Klein which had model Jon Kortajarena channelling the rockabilly look. It shows that the style is even current in high fashion.

Unfortunately my hair isn't as long as Zac's or Jon's, but thankfully this style can look good at any length providing it's not too short on top. Adam Levine of Maroon 5 is a great example of this.

Yesterday was a very eventful day. I turned twenty (half way to forty!) and had a bit of a party to celebrate. Getting ready for the night was fairly simple, I had just had a hair cut so I had less to tame and had a shave earlier in the day which would have eaten up time if I had done it in the evening.

To wash my face I used a cleansing foam mousse by Shisiedo Men which feels almost like a soap because when you massage it into your face it becomes a lather. It is great for cleaning out all those pores. However for me it tends to dry out my skin, so a moisturiser is a must. I bought some more moisturiser by L'Oreal yesterday which is the 'Holiday Look' one which gives you a slight tan. It does really work and last time I bought it it worked a little too well because I kept putting it on! Big Mistake. I started to look a bit tangotastic. So this time I used it sparingly.

Once I was washed and moisturised I moved onto my hair. I used the GHD sculpting wax which is good for giving definition and it tends to last longer than a lot of other waxes. It is on the pricey side, I paid £12.95 for my tub, but it does last for quite a while.

Before leaving the house I sprayed myself with 10 by D&G which apparently is a unisex scent which I think is quite earthy but still quite sweet and stays on really well.

Picture from last night:

It's the last day of my Brylcreem test to see which of the three Brylcreem products I preferred. My last test is for the original light glossy hold. I made the classic mistake of putting to much in which made my hair horrible to style, so I washed my hair and started again. It is recommended that you put the product in wet hair, which is something I never do, but actually it made it really easy to style. It gives my hair a great gloss and isn't to heavy, but if you put to much in it can start to look a bit greasy. What I think this product would be great for is that classic slicked back look to give that smart business style. It is great to use with a comb to get that precise, neat finish.

I am not to keen on the smell, it kind of has an old soap smell which dates it back to when it was first available a few decades ago. However a big plus is that it has an ingredient to help with dandruff, so it wont irritate sensitive scalps, in fact it will help them.

Overall my favourite of the three Brylcreem products I chose is the texturising clay because it gives that hold and texture I need on a night out. But the during the day I would probably opt for the gel wax to get that not so controlled look which can be re-worked. I think I would use the original light glossy hold for smarter occasions to get that classic style are that great glossy finish!

Ok so day two of my little Brylcreem test. I am using the gel wax from Brylcreem and the first thing I have noticed is that it is very light and almost feels like I have used a mousse. Because it is a light hold it isn't as heavy as the texturising clay I used two days ago! What I like most is the shine that comes with it. When you look at it in the pot you can see that it has a shimmer to it which makes my hair look a lot better and healthier. The pot it comes in warned not to put to much in as a little goes a long way; so if you are going to use this only use a dab, then later if you want a stronger hold go back and put some more in. Because it is both gel and wax you almost have the best of both worlds; the lightness of the gel but without that wet look.

So far I prefer the texturing matt hold but who knows tomorrow I am trying original anti-dandruff light hold cream, so that may be the winner!!!
