Brylcreem...still good!

Now I don't want to go down the route of giving tips about style, because I'm not the best at it, but I recently came across a couple of photos of my Grandad and I noticed that what he was wearing could look good today! When it comes to style there are certain classic looks that seem to never date. The Trench coat for example is as popular today as it was back in the days of Casablanca. I gave my Grandad a ring and asked if he used to use any grooming products back in the day that I could talk about in my blog. First I asked if he knew what a blog was, to which he said, "I know what a block of wood is!" So I explained what I was doing and asked if I could use his photograph, then he told me that he used to use Brylcreem. He said that Brylcreem used to be advertised by cricketer Denis Compton, today the face of the brand is another cricketer Kevin Pieterson. The hair care brand is still popular with ten different products available (including the original). To create that polished classic look Brylcreem is a good solution, with different strength waxes, gels and creams. As a sufferer of dandruff my next purchase may be the original anti-dandruff cream from Brylcreem, and it's not that expensive only £3.20 from Boots!

It's the last day of my Brylcreem test to see which of the three Brylcreem products I preferred. My last test is for the original light glossy hold. I made the classic mistake of putting to much in which made my hair horrible to style, so I washed my hair and started again. It is recommended that you put the product in wet hair, which is something I never do, but actually it made it really easy to style. It gives my hair a great gloss and isn't to heavy, but if you put to much in it can start to look a bit greasy. What I think this product would be great for is that classic slicked back look to give that smart business style. It is great to use with a comb to get that precise, neat finish.

I am not to keen on the smell, it kind of has an old soap smell which dates it back to when it was first available a few decades ago. However a big plus is that it has an ingredient to help with dandruff, so it wont irritate sensitive scalps, in fact it will help them.

Ok so day two of my little Brylcreem test. I am using the gel wax from Brylcreem and the first thing I have noticed is that it is very light and almost feels like I have used a mousse. Because it is a light hold it isn't as heavy as the texturising clay I used two days ago! What I like most is the shine that comes with it. When you look at it in the pot you can see that it has a shimmer to it which makes my hair look a lot better and healthier. The pot it comes in warned not to put to much in as a little goes a long way; so if you are going to use this only use a dab, then later if you want a stronger hold go back and put some more in. Because it is both gel and wax you almost have the best of both worlds; the lightness of the gel but without that wet look.

So far I prefer the texturing matt hold but who knows tomorrow I am trying original anti-dandruff light hold cream, so that may be the winner!!!
